Preparation Beats Panic - Why It’s Never Too Early to Think About High School

Dear FOCUS Family,

As an educator, I am mentally preparing myself to have a successful school year, and I hope you have begun the same.  I am already planning my daily routines, anticipating wins, and preparing for the struggles.  As a middle school teacher and former high school placement director, its in my nature to ask my students about their plans for high school, because I know how much a quality high school experience can change the trajectory of a child's life.  The answer for 80% of them, I don't know. Never thought about it....

I truly believe preparation beats panic—especially when it comes to setting our kids up for success in high school and beyond. Whether your child is in 5th grade or 8th, now is the right time to start thinking about high school options, expectations, and opportunities.
